After 2 months of being delayed I finally went to visit my grandmother's grave near the old Hood Point Lighthouse in my hometown today. By habit I always look towards the Lighthouse when I arrive at the cemetery, but I noticed something strange; the lens was rotating on its own, something that is common practice I know in the UK to prevent sun rays shining through the lens and setting the lantern on fire, but this is not a standard practice here in South Africa. During my private tour of the Lighthouse back in 2014 the Keeper explained that the lens and lamp are activated by a day/night sensor, so I am puzzled as to why the lens was rotating in broad daylight.
